Birkdale

 

For some time Dave Allen had been considering opening  his own butchers shop in Southport. Dave had been working as a butcher since leaving school and felt that he had acquired the necessary skills to establish his own business. Dave had learned that a good friend of Tony's, Gerry Baxter, was about to retire. Dave knew that Gerry's business in Birkdale was a good one and that he would like to own it. So in 1993 Gerry sold the business to Dave and Tony. That year we were blessed with a great summer and Dave's skill in the creation of delicious BBQ products got the business off to a great start. The business went from strength to strength and quickly established itself with the residents of Birkdale and Southport.       

 

 

Dave was not content with just producing great products, his skill as a sausage maker was about to be tested. He entered numerous local, national and international sausage competitions. He won many awards for his sausages and the creative products that had been such a success with his customers. Later, he entered the Birkdale shop in the National Top Shop Competition that was run by the Meat Trades Journal. Dave was regional finalist twice and was narrowly beaten into second place once. This was a remarkable achievement as the standard of entries was very high. Dave and his team are always developing new and exciting meat meal ideas; his keen interest in cooking lends itself to the further development of new products to delight his customers.

 

 

Here are the creative team at Birkdale Broughs;  

Steve Deven; Steve hails from down south and has brought a great spirit to the Birkdale shop. Always available for the customers and a fixture within the front of the shop, offering second to none customer service. Guaranteed to get any customer the perfect cut of meat.  

 

 

Gavin Wall; Gavin has worked for Broughs Butchers for over 10 years now. Gavin has developed his butchering ability with Broughs and has become a top class butcher. Gavin keeps the spirits of the Birkdale team up with his humour.   

 

 

 

Ian Clark; Ian currently is working out of the Birkdale shop and gives his all to the Broughs cause. Extremely flexible to any eventuality, allowing himself to be at the disposal of not only his own shop but the other four stand alone stores. A great asset to Broughs Butchers.
